Boscov’s will launch its new store at the Eastwood Mall with a splashy, three-day grand opening this fall. The Reading, Pa.-based department store plans to mark its entry into the Mahoning Valley with a series of promotions Oct. 7-9.

Boscov’s had planned to open last October, but postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The department store will be located in the space formerly occupied by Sear’s, Tilt Studio, and a secondary mall entrance/corridor. It will be Boscov’s 49th store and its second location in Ohio.

“The delayed opening gave us time to put together a wonderful Three-Day Grand Opening Celebration created uniquely for the Mahoning and Shenango Valley communities,” said Jim Boscov, chairman and CEO.

Grand opening activities include:

  • “Charity Day – Shop for a Cause.” Thursday, Oct. 7 – Shoppers making a $5 donation to participating local nonprofits can preview Boscov’s and shop grand opening specials. Fundraising opportunities will be available to area nonprofits. Email

  • “Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony.” Saturday, Oct. 9 – More information will be released at a later date.

Boscov’s is a privately-held, family-owned company with 48 stores in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Ohio.

The company is the nation’s largest family owned department store. Founded in 1914, it offers a full-line, full-service department store experience.

In April, Forbes described Boscov’s as “one of the few department stores that still carries an old-fashioned full range of merchandise, from cosmetics to garden tools.”

Boscov’s offers men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, cosmetics, jewelry, furniture, home accessories, appliances and toys. In a nod to the traditional department store, the Niles location – like all Boscov’s stores – will offer a community auditorium available for use by local organizations.

Store services and amenities include a gift registry, layaway, curbside pickup, free gift-wrapping, a military discount, and “the easiest return policy in the world.” To learn more, visit www.boscovs.com…

“Boscov’s is a unique, full-service department store. In addition to all the traditional departments from apparel to furniture, you’ll find a candy department where you can pick your favorite assortment of Boscov’s chocolates and a toy department with a play area your kids will love,” said Jim Boscov in a prepared statement.

“We’ll be hiring about 250 co-workers who will be trained and empowered to deliver the kind of personal service that’s so hard to find anymore. The Mahoning Valley is going to see some very aggressive retailing that combines fun, fashion, community partnership, entertainment and service with jaw-dropping pricing throughout the store,” Boscov added.

The Eastwood Mall Complex is located at 5555 Youngstown-Warren Road in Niles. It is one of America’s largest shopping centers, with more than 200 department stores, specialty shops, restaurants, hotels and entertainment options.

The Eastwood Mall Complex is owned and managed as part of the Cafaro family of companies, based in Niles. For more information, visit www.eastwoodmall.com and www.cafarocompany.com….
