After a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Turkey on Feb. 6 and aftershocks increased the devastation, two brothers and local business owners felt compelled to help their homeland.
Serdar and Erdal Dede, owners of Café 422, have created Generous Hearts for Turkey, a benefit for the ongoing earthquake-relief efforts in that country.
The event occurs 5-8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 27 at Café 422 in Warren. Tickets are $20 and include dinner and an optional raffle/auction.
Advance tickets can be purchased at Café 422 (Warren and Boardman), Candywood Wine Cellar, The Living Room Tavern, Station Square, the Sharon Hot Dog Shoppe and The Kabob House in Boardman. Tickets also will be available at the door the day of the event.
All proceeds will be sent to The Foundation of Anatolian People and Peace Platform to aid its earthquake-relief efforts in Turkey. The nonprofit organization was founded in 2017 by Turkish rock singer Haluk Levent.
“While we have made America our home, a part of us will always reside in Turkey, as many of our family and friends live there, including our parents,” said Serdar Dede.
“Our loved ones were not directly impacted, but the devastation to the country is unimaginable,” said Erdal Dede.
“The Mahoning Valley always steps up and we are grateful for this opportunity to come together on behalf of Serdar and Erdal to support the people and country of Turkey during this challenging time,” said Abbie Rhine of Café 422.
In addition, Serdar Dede has organized Generous Hearts for Turkey on GoFundMe.com…. A link with more information can be found here and on Café 422’s Facebook page.
