The Champion FIRST Robotics team is announcing the 2024 Northeast Ohio FIRST LEGO League District robotics competition, set for Saturday, Jan. 13.

The competition occurs from 1-5 p.m. in the main gymnasium of Champion Middle School, 5976 Mahoning Ave., N.W., Suite B, Warren 44483. The event is free and open to the public.

Teams of students ages 9-13 will engage in research, problem-solving, coding and engineering by building and programming a LEGO robot that navigates the missions of a robot game. As part of challenge, teams will also participate in a research project to identify and solve a relevant real-world problem.

FIRST LEGO League introduces science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to children ages 4-13 through fun, hands-on learning. Participants gain real-world problem-solving experiences through a guided, global robotics program. The league has three divisions.

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded by inventor Dean Kamen and MIT professor Dr. Woodie Flowers to inspire greater interest and participation in science, technology, engineering, and math endeavors, and to lead students into STEM career fields. FIRST offers four levels of robotics programs for students in grades K-12.
