For the third year in a row, Cleveland Clinic is ranked the No. 2 hospital in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, while holding the No. 1 ranking in urology and retaining its position as the nation’s No. 1 hospital for cardiology and heart surgery for the 24th successive year.

U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals 2018-19” also named Cleveland Clinic the No. 1 hospital in Ohio and the Cleveland area. In all, 14 Cleveland Clinic specialties earned national rankings, including 12 specialties that ranked among the top five nationwide.

“All of Cleveland Clinic’s 53,000 U.S. caregivers should take great pride in this honor. Their hard work, shared sense of purpose and commitment to excellence are what distinguishes Cleveland Clinic,” said Tom Mihaljevic, M.D., CEO and president of Cleveland Clinic. “By working together, we will continue to deliver the highest quality care to our patients, who are the real reason we strive to do better every day.”

Cleveland Clinic is one of 20 U.S. hospitals to be named to the 2018-19 Best Hospitals Honor Roll, a distinction recognizing hospitals that “deliver the highest quality of care across a range of specialties, procedures and conditions,” according to U.S. News. Cleveland Clinic’s ranking as the No. 2 hospital in America marks the 20th consecutive year that it has ranked among the top five hospitals nationwide. Overall, only 158 hospitals – about 3 percent of the 4,500-plus hospitals evaluated by U.S. News – were nationally.

Since 1995, Cleveland Clinic has ranked higher in heart care than any other hospital in America.

“Receiving this honor for 24 consecutive years is a true recognition of our caregivers who compassionately give their time 24/7 and for the patients who have trusted our care as the best hospital for heart care in the country,” said Lars Svensson, M.D., Ph.D., chairman of Cleveland Clinic’s Heart & Vascular Institute. “We are humbled by the many physicians who continue to refer their patients to us, those who choose us for their personal heart care, and rank us as the best place for heart care. This prestigious award encourages us to continue to achieve even better care for our patients, to provide a stress-free experience, and to continue to strive for research and innovation breakthroughs.”

Cleveland Clinic’s Glickman Urological & Kidney Institute is ranked the No. 1 urology program for the second year in a row.

U.S. News’ methodologies are based on objective measures in most areas of care, such as risk-adjusted survival, readmission rates, volume, patient experience, patient safety, and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators.

According to U.S. News, the annual Best Hospitals rankings are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for life-threatening conditions or for common elective procedures.
