The Public Library will open its Family Engagement Area 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 16 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Main Library.

The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley has donated $6,000 to the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County for its 2018 summer reading program, “Libraries Rock!”

The Kennedy Family Fund and First Place Community Fund, component funds of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, were the grant-makers.

“We greatly appreciate the generous support of the Community Foundation for our Summer Discovery program,” said Library Executive Director Aimee Fifarek. “It is gratifying to see this level of commitment to literacy. Through the Library, the whole community has an opportunity to benefit from our services and programming during Summer Reading.”

This year’s Summer Discovery program began in May and continues through July. Summer Discovery attracts thousands of young people and offers programming for babies, children, teens and adults. “With generous support such as this, the Library can bring in quality presenters that educate as well as entertain,” said Janet Loew, Library Communications and Public Relations director.

“The Library much appreciates the generosity of the Community Foundation, which continues to support literacy and the library,” said Deborah Liptak, Library Development director. Donations to the Library can be made by contacting Liptak at 330-744-6086 or at dl*****@li**********.org.

Josephine Nolfi, director of Programming and Youth Services, says, “Summer Discovery promotes reading throughout the summer, when school is not in session. This is important so that kids will be well-prepared when they return to school in the fall.”

The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley is operated exclusively for charitable, educational and scientific purposes that assist and promote the well-being of residents of Mahoning and Trumbull counties. Information about the Foundation can be found at www.cfmv.org….
