The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County continues its food-education programming in April and May at the Culinary Literacy Center at Main Library.

Classes cover a broad range of topics, including nutrition, food preparation, healthy eating, and how-to programs (baking, entertaining, and seasonal and ethnic cooking).

Culinary Foundations – All You Knead to Know About Bread. Main Library, 305 Wick Ave., Youngstown 44503. 330-744-8636. www.libraryvisit.org…. Learn the difference between quick breads and yeast breads followed by a demonstration and practice of making banana bread. Participants will knead a yeasted dough to take home. Registration is required. Only register for one session. For adults. Noon, Thursday, April 6 or 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 12.

Bread Club – Pizza Dough. Main Library, 305 Wick Ave., Youngstown 44503. 330-744-8636. www.libraryvisit.org…. Learn about different types of doughs for making pizza and knead your own dough to take home. The program will conclude with a pizza tasting. Registration is required. Only register for one session. For adults. Noon, Thursday, April 13 or 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 17.

Build a better protein bar with Jessica Romeo, community health educator at Mercy Health. Participants will receive a baking pan to take home along with a container to store their protein bar. Registration is required. For adults. 1 p.m., Friday, April 28.

Bread Club – Cinnamon Rolls. Main Library, 305 Wick Ave., Youngstown 44503. 330-744-8636. www.libraryvisit.org…. Practice using premade dough to make small batches of cinnamon rolls. The class will focus on learning how to shape and cut the rolls, so come prepared to learn and get hands-on experience. Bring a box or container on the second day for your rolls. Registration is required and opens at noon on March 22. Participants must sign up and be available for both sessions. Session one: noon-1 p.m., Wednesday, May 3. Session two: noon-1 p.m., Thursday, May 4.

On day one, the class will make a two-layer cake. On day two, participants will level and ice with frosting. Bring a box or other container on the second day to take home the finished cake. Participants must sign up and be available for both sessions. Registration is required and opens at noon on March 28. Session one: noon-1:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 9. Session two: noon-1:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 10.

Seed to Table: Growing Parsley for Delicious Chimichurri. Main Library, 305 Wick Ave., Youngstown 44503. 330-744-8636. www.libraryvisit.org…. Learn the basics of growing parsely, including planting, watering, and caring for parsley plants. The class covers different parsley varieties, so you can choose the one that suits your needs. Participants also will make a chimichurri sauce. Learn the traditional Argentinean recipe and techniques for creating a tasty and aromatic sauce using your homegrown parsley. Registration is required and opens at noon on April 3. 5:30-6:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 16 or noon-1 p.m., Wednesday, May 17.

Salsa is a vibrant, colorful, and healthy way to add flavor and color to any dish. Make a few different kinds of salsa, learn basic knife skills and techniques, and explore ways to use these healthy condiments to liven up your meals. Participants will get containers to take home what they make. Presented by Jessica Romeo, community health educator at Mercy Health. Registration is required and opens at noon on April 14. 1-2 p.m., Friday, May 26.
