Dec. 17: Dana Opera Ensemble to premiere featured musical selections

Youngstown State University’s Cliffe College of Creative Arts will host several information sessions for both incoming and already admitted students for fall semester 2021.

The Dana School of Music is announcing the premiere of “Opera Scenes” by the Dana Opera Ensemble, which features musical selections by Mozart, Puccini, Beethoven and others. It occurs 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 17 on the Cliffe College YouTube channel.

Performers include:

• Lauren Faber, soprano. Faber is a second-year graduate student pursuing a master’s in vocal performance. She has performed in several operas and opera scenes with the Dana Opera Ensemble, recently playing the role of Genovieffa in “Suor Angelica.”

• LaNae’ Ferguson, mezzo-soprano. Ferguson is a senior Spanish and music recording double major. She is an active member in the Voices of YSU and sang with Dana Chorale last fall. She was a member of Opera Western Reserve’s chorus for three years and performed in “Macbeth” in 2019.

• Emily Gerak is a junior music education student. Gerak is the soprano one section leader of the Dana Chorale, secretary of the Dana Vocal Society, and the vocal director for Poland High School’s drama department.

• Marlina Karimi is an Iranian-American soprano from West Palm Beach, Fla. She performed selected scenes from Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” and “Cosi fan tutte” with Opera Viva! during its 2018 summer program in Verona, Italy. She is currently working on her master’s in vocal performance.

• Sierra McCorvey, soprano, has been featured with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Packard Band, and Mahoning Valley Chorale. She holds a bachelor’s from Youngstown State University and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in voice performance with Dr. Misook Yun.
