SWIMMING
Annual Splash & Dash and Spring Classic Sprint Triathlon. Davis Family YMCA,
45 McClurg Road, Boardman 44512. 330-480-5656. The Splash & Dash swim/run (for children ages 5-12) occurs 8:30-10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 10. Participants complete a swim in the outdoor pool with the distance based on their age group. It’s followed by the outdoor running track. Participants receive a T-shirt, finish ribbon, an outdoor pool pass for the family (for the rest of the race day) and a kid’s lunch afterward. The annual Spring Classic Sprint Triathlon for adults takes place 7:30 a.m., Sunday, June 11. The event consists of a 500-yard swim, 14-mile bike, and a 5K run (either as an individual or a team relay). Participants compete for overall or age group honors with a swim in the outdoor pool, a bike segment (out to New Springfield and back) and a run that departs from the Y and winds through the neighborhood west of Market Street before returning to the finish line. The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown is accepting members for its Logan Ducks and Ducklings Swim Teams. The Ducks Swim Team is part of the Youngstown Swim League and competes throughout the summer. Swimmers ages 11 and older, and advanced swimmers, practice from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Beginners 10 and under practice from 10 to 11 a.m. The season runs from early June through the end of July. The Ducklings Swim Team is for ages 3 to 7 and focuses on stroke technique and endurance. It occurs from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Swim meets are optional for Ducklings. Both meet at the JCC’s Logan Campus. Daily attendance is not mandatory but is encouraged.
