The Rotary Club of Youngstown and the Youngstown Rotary Foundation is announcing a gift of $50,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Youngstown.
The gift will underwrite memberships to the Boys & Girls Clubs of up to $1,000 per year for fifty years. A presentation of the check is scheduled for noon, Wednesday, Feb. 26 at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Youngstown, 2105 Oak Hill Ave. Rotary members, as well as Boys & Girls Clubs staff will be in attendance.
The Boys and Girls Clubs was founded locally by the Rotary Club of Youngstown in the fall of 1969 and opened on Jan. 10, 1970. Rotarians and concerned community members felt that students, especially those who were considered disadvantaged, should have opportunities to enrich the quality of their lives and realize their potential for personal growth. Out of that dream, the Boys Club of Youngstown was born. The organization added girls in 1990 and officially changed its name to Boys & Girls Clubs of Youngstown.
“The Rotary Club of Youngstown and The Youngstown Rotary Foundation has supported the Boys and Girls Clubs of Youngstown since the beginning and is pleased to be able to continue that support for the next fifty years. Rotary’s membership support will give our youth access to the exceptional programs offered at the Boys and Girls Clubs so they may reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens,” said Dave Stillwagon, president, Rotary Club of Youngstown.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Youngstown serves over 900 youth each year in four sites across the city of Youngstown.
