The First Wednesday Series returns to the Harriet Taylor Upton House on March 6. Programs begin at 10 a.m. and are preceded by a 9:30 a.m. coffee.

2024 programs include:
“Frances Perkins – Woman behind the New Deal.” Paula Jasper returns to tell the story of Frances Perkins who crafted the New Deal for President Franklin D. Roosevelt and served in his cabinet as Secretary of Labor. 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 6.
“The Boston Tea Party.” Roger Peterson Jr. will give insight into the pivotal historical event that occurred 250 years ago in Boston Harbor. 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 3.
Timothy R. Brookes will present a program on Charles Arthur “Pretty Boy” Floyd and his connections to Ohio and East Liverpool. Brookes is president of the East Liverpool Historical Society. 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 1.
Other events
The Upton Annual Meeting. Includes short reports and a review of the state of the association, followed by a pizza party. 4:30 p.m., Thursday, April 11.
Annual Spring Luncheon. Dr. Kimberly Hamlin of Miami University will speak on her 2020 book, “Free Thinker: Sex, Suffrage, and the Extraordinary Life of Helen Hamilton Gardener.” Reservation forms will be mailed in early April. Call for time. Saturday, May 4.
The Upton Association will celebrate its 35th anniversary. Refreshments will be served. Call for time. Sunday, Aug. 4.
About – The Upton House became the temporary center of the National American Woman Suffrage Association in 1903 when the organization moved to Warren. The board of the Upton Association works to preserve the Upton House and its history as related to the Women’s Suffrage Movement in Warren and nationally. The Upton House achieved National Historic Landmark status in 1993. More information is available on the Upton Association website.
