AUSTINTOWN, March 30 – As Ohio’s stay-at-home order is currently written, golf courses are exempt as open recreational areas and not subject to closure.

While golf courses may operate, other aspects of their business may not. Mahoning County Public Health may order operations to cease if any golf course also operates any of the following places of public amusement: amusement rides, carnivals, amusement parks, water parks, aquariums, zoos, museums, arcades, fairs, children’s play centers, playgrounds, funplexes, theme parks, bowling alleys, movie or other theaters, concert or music halls, country clubs or social halls or bars, or restaurants providing for on-premises consumption.

If a golf course chooses to stay open, it must still take measures to ensure compliance with social-distancing requirements. This includes maintaining at least six-foot social distancing from other individuals; washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds as frequently as possible or using hand sanitizer; covering coughs or sneezes; regularly cleaning high-touch surfaces; and not shaking hands.

Mahoning County Public Health is recommending that all golf outings be canceled and that there be only one person per cart to meet the social-distancing requirements as outlined in the Ohio order.
