Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has tested positive for Covid-19. DeWine’s office made the announcement in a prepared statement on Tuesday.
“At approximately 5:30 p.m. today, Gov. DeWine tested positive for Covid-19. He started experiencing mild cold symptoms yesterday. Believing he had a mild head cold, he proceeded with his work day today. As the day progressed, his symptoms worsened, and his doctor advised that he take a Covid-19 test, which was positive. He reported having a 101 degree fever at the time of taking the test late this afternoon. He is resting at home at this time,” the statement read.
DeWine, 76, is Ohio’s 70th governor. He was reelected in 2022.
Recent public appearances include a Tuesday media event in Columbus where DeWine joined state, local, and federal leaders to unveil the new Central Ohio Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC).
On Monday, DeWine, Lt. Gov. Jon Husted, Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik, JobsOhio President & CEO J.P. Nauseef were in Dayton to announce that Joby Aviation Inc. will build an electric air taxi manufacturing facility at the Dayton International Airport, creating 2,000 new jobs in the Miami Valley.
“The current strain of Covid-19 can present itself with symptoms much like a head cold. Gov. DeWine and the Ohio Department of Health advise testing yourself for Covid-19, even if you think you have only a minor cold,” added the governor’s office.
