Guitar Studio to offer free jazz master class via Zoom | The session will be taught by Jim Campilongo and Luca Benedetti of New York City.
Youngstown State University’s Guitar Studio will host a virtual jazz master class featuring Jim Campilongo and Luca Benedetti, two New York-based jazz guitarists and recording artists.
The session occurs from 12:30-3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20. The master class is free and open to the public via Zoom. The Zoom password is 260191.

Jim Campilongo – With 11 albums and guest appearances on dozens of recordings, Jim Campilongo has played with scores of performers. Credits range from his Bammie-Award-winning contribution to Cake’s million-selling “Prolonging the Magic,” to lead guitar duties with The Little Willies (his band with Norah Jones), to two gold records. He has written music in ads for Volkswagen, Michelin, Jack Daniel’s, National Grid, and SBC.
Campilongo is a published guitar teacher and contributing editor for Guitar Player. His TrueFire instructional video “Sonic Tele” continues to be a best-seller, along with his popular “Lessons By Mail,” which he offers on his website.
Campilongo’s virtuosity and originality has inspired a generation of guitar players. His songwriting incorporates blues, country, jazz and rock, with a sensitivity and wit that earned him a broad fan base.
The Jim Campilongo Electric Trio has performed every Monday at the Rockwood Music Hall, which Time Out New York recommended as “one of the city’s strongest,” touting “Monday night means Jim Campilongo.”
In 2013, Fender Guitars created the Campilongo Signature Telecaster, a high-quality instrument made by Fender’s elite Custom Shop.
Luca Benedetti – Brooklyn-based guitarist and producer Luca Benedetti has been performing in a wide variety of roots, jazz, country, and Americana-inspired projects since moving to New York in 1996. His most recent collaborations include performances, production, and recordings with Hermine Deurloo, Steve Gadd, Jim Campilongo and other artists.
As an original member of Honeyfingers, he co-produced and performed on “Last Night, This Morning” and co-produced and performed on “This Highway” by country artist Zephaniah O’Hora.
Campilongo holds a bachelor’s degree from The Berklee College of Music and a master’s from The City College of New York. While attending City College, he studied with jazz legend Ron Carter, who invited him to perform for the ASCAP Hall of Fame ceremony honoring Milt Hinton and Artie Shaw.
He also scored the music for The Cuban Cowboys-inspired soundtrack for KPI TV’s “Lucha Libre: Life Behind The Mask.” An active music instructor, he has taught privately as well as at The City College of New York, The Long Island Conservatory of Music and Larchmont Music Academy. In addition, McDonald’s, Subway, Rolex, Arby’s, The Cotton Industry, Axe and AT&T have featured Benedetti’s work in advertisements.
