INGREDIENTS
2 cups flour
½ cup sugar
½ pound butter
½ pound ground nuts (walnuts)
1 teaspoon vanilla
PREPARATION
- Cream sugar and butter.
- Add flour slowly.
- Add nuts and vanilla.
- Roll out on floured board and cut into 2-inch squares.
- Roll from the corner down and make into a crescent form.
- Bake for 15 minutes in a 400°F oven.
- Roll in powdered sugar.
Hungarian nut crescents are a traditional Eastern European cookie baked for the Christmas holiday and celebratory events like weddings. A traditional preparation utilizes ground walnuts, but other varieties use apricot, poppyseed and prune lekvar filling.
