Mill Creek MetroParks is extending the cancellations of all previously scheduled programs, tours, events, lectures and indoor facility rentals until the April  2021 board meeting scheduled for April 12, 2021. Resolution Hike. Newport Wetlands, Overindulge during the holidays? Resolve to exercise more during 2017 but haven’t gotten off the couch? A steady, but moderate, pace around Lake Newport. Moderate/difficult, 5 miles. Jan. 8, 2-4:30 p.m.

Recreational Hikes. Start the new year off right with a recreational hike – generally led by volunteers and faster paced to focus on exercise. 9 a.m., Jan. 11. Meet at overflow parking lot on West Golf Drive. Easy, 1 or 3 miles; 9 a.m., Jan. 25, MetroParks Bikeway Trailhead at Kirk Road. Easy, 2 or 4 miles.

The Snow Moon. Ford Nature Education Center, Mill Creek MetroParks; 840 Old Furnace Road, Youngstown, 44511; 330-740-7107.Discover why some North American Indian tribes referred to this month’s full moon as the “Snow Moon.” Moderate, 2 miles. Jan. 13. 7-8:30 p.m.

Hot Drink Hike. Ford Nature Education Center, Mill Creek MetroParks, 840 Old Furnace Road, Youngstown, 44511; 330-740-7107. Have a warm cup of coffee or tea around a bonfire before and after a loop hike out of Ford. Bring your hot drink travel mug. Hike departs at 2:30 p.m. Moderate 1.2 miles. Jan. 15. 2-4 p.m.

Sounds of Winter. Hitchcock Woods, Mill Creek MetroParks, Boardman, 44512; 330-740-7107.  This hikes takes in the quiet of winter and the sounds of nature. Moderate, 2 miles. Jan. 22. 2-4 p.m.

Naked Trees. Lily Pond parking area, Mill Creek MetroParks, Youngstown, 44511; 330-740-7107. The trees might be bare but you can still tell who’s there, This event features a brisk hike through the park; learn how to identify trees even when there are no leaves. Moderate 1.5 miles. Jan. 29. 1-3 p.m.
