Lit Youngstown to feature Kent poet, Jimmy Sutman Nov. 2 – Lit Youngstown’s First Wednesday Reader Series will present Kent poet and fiction writer Kelly Hambly and Youngstown poet Jimmy Sutman at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 2 at the Soap Gallery, 117 S. Champion St., Youngstown.Â
The event, which will be co-hosted by Denise Sculli, is free and open to the public. An open mic will follow the featured readers.Â
Hambly writes poetry, creative nonfiction, and fiction as a way of connecting her past, present, and future to help heal generational trauma. Lit Youngstown says Hambly “is most interested in how writing helps us discover our truths and develop the voices we raise or whisper to share those truths.”
Sutman is the director of ISLE Inc. and Purple Cat, Valley-based organizations which provide services for adults with autism, cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, and traumatic brain injury. He is the founder of goldenstringradio.org…, a radio station run by adults with disabilities. Sutman curates and DJs “Oranges Pop Music and Poetry,” a show in which he reads poetry and ties in popular music. Sutman attended Grove City College and Youngstown State University. He is a recent graduate of the MFA program at St. Leo’s University.
The November First Wednesday reading is made possible with funding from the Char & Chuck Fowler Foundation. The Dec. 7 reading will feature Julie Cancio Harper and Eric Harper of Youngstown.Â
