Lit Youngstown will open its 2024 “First Wednesday Reader Series” with local historians Sean T. Posey of Canfield and Roslyn Torella of Lowellville. 

The true-stories reading occurs 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 3 at Westside Bowl, 2617 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown 44509. It takes place in the Trophy Room, a downstairs space only accessible by stairs.

Mia Allonby will co-host. An open mic follows the readings.

Posey is a journalist and historian. His work has appeared in Salon, “Moyers & Company,” and CounterPunch. He is the author of “Lost Youngstown,” “Historic Theaters of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley,” and “Hidden History of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley.”

Torella has a keen interest in the history of Lowellville. She is a genealogist, family historian, and YSU graduate. Her first book, “Lowellville, Ohio: Murder, Mayhem and More” was written as a gift for her late father. She loves local history and discovering the stories of the people who once called the Mahoning Valley home.
