The Mahoning Soil & Water Conservation District is announcing its holiday birdseed sale which will take place from now until supplies last.

Locally produced 25-pound bags of wild birdseed are $10 each and can be purchased by calling the Soil & Water office at 330-740-7995.

The mix includes 40 percent sunflower, 20 percent millet, 20 percent wheat and 20 percent cracked corn.

“We can’t forget about our feathered friends during the winter season,” said Kathleen Vrable-Bryan, Mahoning Soil & Water district administrator. “Many of their natural seed and food sources are depleted or limited, so it’s important to feed them during these months, which will also help them to prepare for a better spring mating season.”

Birds protect our drinking water by preventing erosion. They also help to conserve soil quality by controlling pests, spreading seeds and pollinating plants.

For more information, call or stop by the district office located 850 Industrial Road in Youngstown.
