YWCA of Youngstown renovation nears completion | The YWCA Board of Directors began planning the project in 1996 following a feasibility study.
The YWCA of Youngstown undertook an ambitious $10 million renovation and restoration of the historic building that has functioned, at various times in the past 100 years, as a homeless shelter, a place of worship and a center for childcare, education, health and recreation, social activities and women affected by crisis. Tickets are on sale for YWCA Mahoning Valley’s fourth annual International Women’s Day celebration. It occurs 5:30 p.m., Thursday, March 12 at the YWCA, 25 W. Rayen Ave., Youngstown 44503.

Tickets are $20 per person and $10 for students. The ticket fee includes dinner. Tickets will be available in person at the YWCA office or online at YWCA. A limited amount of tickets will be available through March 11.

The event will feature ethnic cuisine, music from around the world, and a guest speaker.

International Women’s Day showcases the dancing, music, dress, and food of cultures represented in the Mahoning Valley. It also seeks to draw attention to issues that impact women and renew the push for parity in all facets of life – from the workplace to the home.

This year’s guest speaker will be Dr. Marcelle Wilson of Youngstown State University who will speak about 100 years of women’s right to vote.

The event is sponsored by the International Institute Fund, a component fund of Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, and by the Nancy K. Morris Endowment Fund.
