The Dana School of Music is announcing a concert by the YSU Trombone Ensemble and the YSU Dana Symphony Orchestra 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 4 at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave., Youngstown.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $6 for students and senior citizens. Those with a YSU ID are free.
The YSU Trombone Ensemble is under the direction of conductor Andrew Mitchell and conductor Stephen L. Gage leads the YSU Dana Symphony Orchestra.
The “Bone Voyage” Trombone Quartet will open the program with Daniel Speer’s “Sonata,” and the Trombone Ensemble will perform Chris Sharpe’s “Apogee Fanfare.” The Dana Symphony Orchestra will perform Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’s “Hebrides Overture.”
The feature piece on this concert is Finnish composer, Jean Sibelius’ “Second Symphony in D Major, Op. 36.” This masterwork is considered one of the 20th century’s most-beloved compositions.
Fifteen high school string players, who were chosen by audition to play alongside the YSU string orchestra members, also will perform. These young musicians come from northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania.
