May 7: Wind Ensemble to perform year-end concert via Facebook Live

Youngstown State University opened a new academic year with increased enrollment, residence halls at capacity and a freshman class that is the strongest academically in the university’s history.

Youngstown, May 5 – The Youngstown State University Dana School of Music Wind Ensemble, directed by Dr. Stephen L. Gage, will host a year-end virtual concert 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 7.

The concert is scheduled as a Facebook Live event on the Youngstown State University Bands Facebook Page.

The event will open with recordings of two performance selections from a Wind Ensemble concert held in February, which will be accompanied by slideshows that display band photos from the past year.

The concert includes the premiere of the Virtual YSU Wind Ensemble Video of “Stars and Stripes Forever,” produced by Brendan Gage, a Dana School of Music graduating senior.

The YSU Wind Ensemble consists of 50 auditioned students in the music school. Ten graduating students from the ensemble will also be acknowledged. They include:

  • Ryan Dutton, Master of Music, instrumental conducting, Dallas;
  • Noah Cline, Bachelor of Arts, horn performance, Warren;
  • Brendan Gage, Bachelor of Music, horn performance, Poland;
  • Dominic Gentile, Bachelor of Music, trombone performance, Pittsburgh;
  • Ross Hill, Bachelor of Music, music education, Poland;
  • Andrew Kovaleski, Master of Music, saxophone performance, Columbus;
  • Elliot Kwolek, Master of Music, clarinet performance, Beaver, Pa.;
  • Daniel Sager, Master of Music, trombone performance, LaPorte, Ind.;
  • Sarah Schwenke, Bachelor of Music, horn performance, New Wilmington, Pa.;
  • Mitchell Topf, Bachelor of Arts, in history, Zelienople, Pa.
