State Sen. Michael Rulli (R-Salem) on Monday was sworn in by Ohio Supreme Court Justice, Judith L. French, to represent Ohio’s 33rd Senate District, which includes all of Columbiana and Mahoning counties.
The opening ceremonies were held at the Ohio Statehouse, marking the beginning of the 133rd Ohio General Assembly.
“It is an honor and privilege to be here today among colleagues who are clearly passionate about representing their districts,” said Rulli. “I look forward to beginning our work to promote economic development, strengthen our growing workforce, and ensure our education system is effectively preparing kids for the future.”
Rulli is director of operations for Rulli Bros., a family-owned chain of supermarkets in Boardman and Austintown. In addition, he has served as chairman of a business-development group in Salem.
Rulli served on the Leetonia School Board from 2009-2017. He was president from 2015-2016 and led the district through a crippling financial crisis.
Rulli has been recognized by the Better Business Bureau, receiving the organization’s 2017 Torch Award. The Regional Chamber also honored him with the 2017 Small Businessman of the Year Award.
“I am very eager to continue the conversations I have started with my constituents on necessary steps to improve the lives of all Ohioans,” said Rulli.
Rulli is a graduate of Poland Seminary High School, the Naval Sea Cadets and Emerson College. He and his wife, Kelly, live in Salem with their two children.
