Kent State University Trumbull is announcing the grand opening of At Ease, its new military and veteran resource center. The event occurs 1:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 21 at Gelbke Library.

The grand opening is open to the the public. The campus library is located in the Library/Theatre Building, 4314 Mahoning Ave., N.W., Warren 44483.

At Ease offers military and veteran students a place to access information on the GI Bill, campus mental health counseling, community relations, financial aid and other campus resources.

The idea for the resource center came from Kent Trumbull faculty and staff members Lori Singer-Bare, Maribeth Eckenrode, Barb Ozimek, and Karen Ronga.

Singer-Bare is a lecturer in criminology and justice studies, an instructor in the Peace Officer Training Academy, and program coordinator for the College of Applied and Technical Studies Criminology and Justice Studies. She served over 13 years in the U.S. Army as a military police officer, drill sergeant, platoon sergeant, and operations sergeant.

Eckenrode is a regional campus financial aid representative and a military spouse. Ozimek is a counseling specialist and adjunct faculty member. She has served the veteran community with mental health services and has numerous family members who have served in the military. Ronga is director of the Gelbke Library.

“We wanted to create a space for our military and veteran students,” Singer-Bare said. “We are so grateful to our military and veteran students, staff and faculty. This is another way we can thank and honor those who are serving or have served this great nation.”

Featured guests include U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) and the local U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.
