Molson Coors Beverage Company is donating approximately 125,000 cans of water to assist residents of East Palestine as the community continues to recover from the train derailment last month in the eastern part of the state.
Molson Coors operates a brewery 275 miles away, in Trenton, Ohio, where the canned water is produced.
“Clean water continues to be an immediate and long-term need in East Palestine,” said Michael Nordman, senior manager of community affairs for Molson Coors. “We are committed to helping communities in times of devastation, especially when we are part of the community.”
The cans of water were picked up at Molson Coors’ breweries in Trenton and Shenandoah, Va. and delivered this week to the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley, based in Youngstown, about 30 minutes from East Palestine.
“Our thanks to Molson Coors for the generous donation of water,” said Michael Iberis, executive director of the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. “This will help the residents of East Palestine and the surrounding areas affected by the train derailment as they go through the recovery process.”
Since launching its water donation program in 2017, Molson Coors, in partnership with Broomfield, Colo.-based Ball Corporation, has provided more than 2 million cans of water to communities affected by disasters. The water is canned at the Molson Coors brewery in Trenton and stored in its Shenandoah and Golden, Colo. breweries. The city of Trenton is also providing 100 cases of bottled water to assist East Palestine residents.
Graphic Packaging International donated 12-pack cartons to package the cans and transit of the water was donated by transportation companies Echo Global Logistics and C.H. Robinson.
