Mahoning Valley Historical Society is seeking nominees for its annual Historic Preservation Awards program, which recognizes outstanding revitalization projects and people who have made an impact on preservation in the local community.

Call-for-entry details are currently being sent to members and various businesses, organizations, and individuals across the Mahoning Valley. Printed or digital submissions must be received by Friday, April 30. Eligible projects must have been completed by March 1, 2021.

Entries will be judged by a special panel of local experts. In previous years, winning submissions have included property owners, project designers/managers, and individuals who have made significant accomplishments in local preservation. MVHS has recognized over 60 organizations and individuals since 2005.

After the judging process is completed in May (National Preservation Month), a special ceremony to acknowledge winners will be held during MVHS’ 146th Annual Meeting on Tuesday, June 22.

Information for the virtual or hybrid format of this membership meeting and the Historic Preservation Awards ceremony will be announced in the future. All confirmed details will be made available on the MVHS website.

“The uncertainties and closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic caused MVHS to cancel the 2020 awards program. A year later, we are cautiously optimistic that we could conduct this important recognition of local preservation efforts with the level of celebration it deserves,” said Norma J. Stefanik, a registered architect and chairwoman of the MVHS Historic Preservation Awards committee.

The MVHS Historic Preservation Awards are sponsored by First Place Community Fund, a component of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley.

Questions and comments about the nomination process may be directed to Dave Ragan, MVHS Communications Manager, at
