The New Castle Community YMCA is changing its name to the Lawrence County YMCA.

The New Castle Y’s board of directors approved the name change. This decision resulted from the New Castle Y’s strategic plan to serve all of Lawrence County and to continue to be an anchor in the community. The YMCA is located at 20 W. Washington St., New Castle, Pa. 16101.

According to a statement in a prepared statement, “Lawrence County YMCA better defines our current service area [Lawrence County] and reflects our intent to expand our presence and become more accessible to individuals and families throughout the entire Lawrence County Community. Our goal is to ensure the Y’s services and programs encompass the entire community by expanding our programs and collaborating with organizations to deliver high quality programs and services that meet the needs of our community.”

The rebranded YMCA will host an open house 12:30-3 p.m., Saturday, March 21 at the downtown New Castle branch. The event will include light refreshments, group fitness class demonstrations, branch tours, and the chance to speak with facility directors. Parents are welcome to drop-off their children, ages 6 months to 8 years, at the Child Watch Center during demonstrations of fitness classes.

During the event, all new members will have their joining fee waived.
