Noted hyperrealist to open show Oct. 21 at Medici Museum of Art – Internationally renowned American artist Carole A. Feuerman will visit the Mahoning Valley for her solo show, “The Importance of Being Human,” which opens Friday, Oct. 21 at Medici Museum of Art, 9350 E. Market St., Howland. 

A reception and opening are scheduled for 5-8 p.m. that day and are free to the public. Patrons will also have an opportunity to meet the artist. 

Feuerman’s solo show is expected to be on display until Feb. 1, 2023. 

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our community to meet Carole and see her fascinating work that has been exhibited internationally,” said Medici Museum of Art Director Katelyn Amendolara-Russo. She said the museum expects visitors to travel from out of state to see Feuerman’s iconic figurative work. 

The artist, who was born in 1945, is an American sculptor and author working in hyperrealism. She is one of the three artists credited with starting the movement in the late 1970s and is best known for her iconic figurative works of swimmers and dancers. Feuerman is also noted for her realistically painted outdoor sculptures.

Feuerman’s public works have been displayed in the United States, Europe, China and elsewhere in the world.

Feuerman has received multiple awards including: “The Special Honor Award” (Changzhou); “Best in Show” (Beijing); the Amelia Peabody Award, First Prize at the Olympic Fine Art Exhibition (Beijing); and the Medici Award (Florence).

She has taught, lectured, and given workshops at the Guggenheim Museum and the Metropolitan Museum.

In 2011, she founded the Carole A. Feuerman Sculpture Foundation. She has four full-color monographs.

Feuerman’s works are in the permanent collections of 31 museums and owned by the cities of Sunnyvale, Calif and Peekskill N.Y., the State Hermitage, El Paso Museum, and privately owned by Steven A. Cohen, President Bill Clinton, The Frederick R. Weisman Foundation, Mr. Joop van Caldenborgh, Dr. Henry Kissinger, and Malcolm Forbes.
