Nov. 21: Trombonist to perform in McDonough Honors Recital Series

Trombonist Zak Rahal will perform a virtual recital for the next McDonough Museum Honors Recital Series premiering 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 21 on the McDonough Museum of Art  and Cliffe College YouTube channels.

The series is a collaboration between the McDonough Museum of Art and the Dana School of Music where six students were selected as winners in the competition this semester.

Rahal, a bass trombonist, will perform music by Hidas, Brahms and Bach.

Rahal of Plymouth, Mich. is a YSU junior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in music performance. Since coming to YSU, he has performed with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra and the Warren Philharmonic. Rahal currently studies with Dr. Andrew Mitchell at YSU and previously studied with Kenneth Thompkins of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

While in high school, Rahal was principal trombonist of the Detroit Symphony Youth Orchestra. In the summer of 2016, he was a member of the National Youth Orchestra 2 program run by Carnegie Hall during its inaugural season. Rahal has performed for well-known conductors Leonard Slatkin and Giancarlo Guerrero.
