The Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County will present award-winning author Justina Ireland in a virtual program for teens from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16. The event will celebrate TeenTober and teens who completed the Summer Discovery Program.

Ireland, the best-selling author of “Dread Nation,” will discuss her novels and answer questions. The event occurs via Zoom and is for teens in grades 7-12.

Registration and an email address are required. Call 330-744-8636 or register online. Teens who completed Summer Discovery and have a question for the author, can submit questions in advance.

YA fan art contest

Teens can submit an original piece of fan art during October for a chance to win a copy of Ireland’s “Dread Nation.” Participants can receive a bonus entry if they create fan art for any of Ireland’s books. Fan art includes art in any medium – drawing, painting, mixed-media, digital art, and more.

Entries must include a name, telephone number, grade and school. One winner will be chosen and awarded a prize. All entrants must be in grades 7-12 and either live in or attend school in Mahoning County. The contest runs through Oct. 31. Entries are not returnable.

About TeenTober – TeenTober is a new, nationwide project from the American Library Association’s YALSA (Young Adult Library Services Association) division celebrating teen literature and services throughout the month of October.
