The Public Library will open its Family Engagement Area 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 16 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Main Library.

As part of the strategic planning process at the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County (PLYMC), the renovation of the historic Main Library is in its beginning phases. The Library is seeking input from interested citizens and is holding two input meetings, open to the public and to be held inside the Main Library, 305 Wick Ave., in October.

Meetings have been set for 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 25 and 8 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30 at Main Library.

Library Executive Director Aimee Fifarek and Library Trustees are beginning the project by gathering input from the public at these two meetings. Fifarek is looking for input to identify what people like to see included in the facility “in order to help make the Main Library as attractive and responsive to the community as possible.”

The meeting will include a presentation showing what the renovated Main Library might include to generate discussion. Topics might include: the building exterior and green space; parking space; interior people spaces like meeting rooms, study rooms, exhibit space, a café area, a reading room; a children’s area; a maker space or interactive learning center; research areas, including general research, genealogy, local history; popular materials.

To accommodate hearing-impaired attendees, a sign-language interpreter will be available at the public sessions.

Additionally, the public will be able to provide input starting Oct. 25 on the Library’s website, Libraryvisit.org….

Along with these sessions for the general public, Fifarek will be discussing the project with interested parties, such as library staff, city and county officials, and neighboring organizations and businesses.
