Oct. 3: Dana Alumni Concert Series to feature pianist Sean Baran

The Dana Alumni Recital Series will feature pianist Sean Baran in a virtual performance 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 3 on the Cliffe College and McDonough Museum of Art YouTube channels.

Baran will perform works for solo piano by Brahms and Persichetti. This premiere performance was prerecorded.

Baran studied piano with Dr. Caroline Oltmanns and organ with Dr. Daniel Laginya. He earned a bachelor’s and master’s in music from YSU in 2011 and 2014, respectively. In 2014, he attended the Zodiac Festival in Nice, France.

In addition to maintaining a private piano studio in Youngstown, Baran is a resident artist at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center in Midland, Pa., where he coordinates the piano program for the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School.

Baran is organist at Boardman United Methodist Church where he organizes the Boardman United Methodist Church Community Concert Series. He is also a member of the American Guild of Organists, having served as a member of the executive committee for the Youngstown Chapter.

He has organized fundraising concerts for the American Guild of Organists and the Boardman High School choirs, and he served as the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra’s ensemble keyboardist during their 2018/2019 Stained-Glass and Classics series.

He serves as the secretary of Youngstown Music Teachers’ Association, vice president of Student Activities of OMTA Middle East District, and District 1 Junior Counselor for the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs.

Baran’s students frequently receive the highest ratings at local adjudicated events and competitions and perform throughout the area in recitals and master classes.

In addition to music, he is an advocate for Youngstown and Mill Creek Park as well as an amateur photographer. He is a member of the Mill Creek MetroParks’ Environmental Advisory Committee.

The Dana Alumni Recital Series features a variety of music performed by graduates of the Dana School of Music in collaboration with the McDonough Museum of Art.
