Allan R. May, an organized crime expert and author, will address a Nov. 14 Youngstown Press Club luncheon. His topic will be: “Musings on the Mob and the Mahoning Valley.”
The event will begin at noon at the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., Youngstown.
May is the author of “Crimetown USA: The History of the Mahoning Valley Mafia.” Another of his books, “Welcome to the Jungle Inn,” is a history of organized crime in Warren and Trumbull County, which features stories about the infamous gambling den.
Hay has also written books about Cleveland-area organized crime. “Petro: Cleveland’s Handsomest Public Enemy,” which was published last year, features Julius Petro and his Collinwood burglary crew. “The Sly-Fanner Murders: The Birth of the Mayfield Road Mob,” tells the story of Cleveland’s most notorious Mafia gang.
He also wrote “Gangland Gotham: New York’s Notorious Mob Bosses.”
May has taught courses on organized crime at Cuyahoga Community College and lectures at libraries throughout northeast Ohio.
He got his start with Jerry Capeci, the dean of mob writers, at Capeci’s “Gangland News” website.
May was the main organized crime writer for Court TV’s website, CrimeLibrary.com…, in the early 2000s, and he was a major contributor to AmericanMafia.com… and CrimeMagazine.com….
