Trumbull County Tourism, the Italian Food Trail and the Mahoning Valley Scrappers presented their annual Peppers in Oil competition tonight at Eastwood Field.

The contest attracted Mahoning Valley restaurants, caterers, retailers and even a North Bloomfield-based honey farm and apiary (honey infused with cayenne pepper).

Participants included Papa Canzonetta’s Italian-Style Peppers in Oil, Jacked Steakhouse (Warren), Red Plum Pizza and Pasta (Howland), Donavito’s Restaurant and Catering (Struthers), Salvatore’s (Howland, Niles and Austintown), Station Square (Liberty), Farm Girl’s Honey (North Bloomfield), Jeffrey Chrystal’s Catering (Youngstown), Tino’s Italian Kitchen (Niles) and Pesa Italian Rolls (Howland).

Trumbull County Tourism created the peppers-in-oil competition in 2019. Prior to the first contest, Executive Director Beth Kotwis Carmichael noted: “This is a unique and fun way to share one of our most iconic regional dishes with both visitors and residents. Come out to the ballpark for a taste of what Trumbull County has to offer.”
