The Public Library will open its Family Engagement Area 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 16 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Main Library.

The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County has canceled its programming and events from Friday, March 13, through Friday, April 3 in response to the coronavirus COVID-19 situation. The Library will continue to monitor the situation and will make decisions on resuming programming at that time. Currently, all libraries in the PLYMC system remain open.

The Public Library continues to monitor information and guidelines provided by city, county and state health officials and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in order to serve the needs of the community, while focusing on the safety and health of its customers.

A preview of the Main Library’s renovation and construction plans, will still occur 11 a.m., Thursday, March 19 at Main Library, but the event will also be live-streamed for those who would like to access the information remotely. Additionally, information will be posted on the Public Library’s website.

In order to continue to provide programming to the community, the Library is looking at ways to do this via social media and other electronic methods that people can access from any Internet-enabled device. This allows people to make the best decisions for their health and safety.

The “Plant the Seed to Read” Childrens Book Festival, which was scheduled to take place Saturday, April 4, at Mill Creek Park’s Fellows Riverside Gardens, has also been cancelled. The Library is a partner in this annual event.

Libraries are shared public spaces. For the health and safety of others, library patrons should avoid coming to the library if they are ill or have a fever in order to help stop the spread of germs and diseases.

The Library will continue to issue updates and alerts due to this ongoing community health situation. Patrons are advised to follow the Public Library on Facebook or visit its website for more information about this rapidly changing public health issue.
