Rumaki Appetizer (Bacon-Wrapped Water Chestnuts) | This hot appetizer was featured on “Entertaining with Homeplate.”
INGREDIENTS
2 cans whole water chestnuts, drained
½ cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 lb. sliced bacon
PREPARATION
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Open package of bacon, and slice into thirds.
- In a bowl, mix brown sugar and soy sauce until smooth.
- Add water chestnuts and coat thoroughly.
- Take one strip of bacon and wrap around each water chestnut. Place each wrapped chestnut, seam-side down on a release-foil lined baking sheet. Carefully brush remaining soy mixture over chestnuts.
- Bake until crisp and golden brown, about 20 minutes. Keep checking, as you don’t want them to burn.
- Cool slightly, and insert cocktail skewers or toothpicks into each chestnut before plating.
