The Mahoning Soil & Water Conservation District is announcing its Spring Fish Sale.
The annual event is set for 1-2 p.m., Thursday, April 3 at the Canfield Fairgrounds, 7265 Columbiana Canfield Road, Canfield.
The sale will feature a variety of fingerling-sized fish, including fathead minnows, largemouth bass, bluegill, hybrid bluegill, channel catfish, red-ear sunfish (shell cracker), yellow perch, black crappie, white amur and Japanese koi.
In addition, pond owners will have the opportunity to purchase fish food, pond conditioner, and maintenance books to support proper pond management.
Orders must be submitted to the district office by Friday, March 28. To place an order, contact the district office at 330-740-7995 or by email at as*****@ma**************.gov. Order forms are also available on the MSWC District website and event page.
“This sale is an excellent opportunity for Mahoning County residents to supply their ponds with high-quality fish,” said Kathi Vrable-Bryan, SWCD administrator. “Fish act as excellent indicators of water quality and help improve it. We are excited to offer this event and look forward to seeing the community and supporting their efforts to enhance their aquatic habitats.”
Participants picking up orders are reminded to bring containers to transport the fish. Five-gallon buckets with unscented poly liners (30-gallon trash bags) are recommended for transport. Bags should be secured with a twist tie or twine and containers should be filled with pond water up to one-third full. As a general guideline, one container can hold up to 100 small fish, 1,000 minnows, or 4-5 amurs and koi.
Customers are asked to assist with the loading and unloading of their containers into their vehicles at the delivery site. Fenders Fish Hatchery (the supplier) will not provide containers.
For more information, contact the district office at 330-740-7995 or email as*****@ma**************.gov.
