The newly formed Steel Valley Reproductive Justice Coalition will host a reproductive rights rally on Saturday, May 14 outside the Mahoning County Courthouse in downtown Youngstown.
“Bans Off Our Bodies” will take place from 1-2:30 p.m. outside the Mahoning County Courthouse, 120 Market St., Youngstown 44503.
The rally is part of a National Day of Action for Abortion Rights. Rallies are planned across the U.S., including marches in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. The nationwide events are in response to a recently leaked draft opinion that showed the Supreme Court was prepared to overturn its landmark Roe v. Wade decision.
Organizers said the Youngstown rally will “include speakers of diverse perspectives and lived experiences from across the Mahoning Valley, including faith leaders and healthcare providers, those who lived through challenges to accessing abortion care before Roe v. Wade, and young people who have built their futures around full access to reproductive choice.”
Speakers will discuss ways the Mahoning Valley can work with coalitions across Ohio “to change laws to advance reproductive justice and provide mutual aid to people in immediate need of support.”
“We organize not only to ensure abortion access, but to ensure that those who do want to carry their pregnancy to term have reliable access to a robust array of healthcare and child support resources needed to truly become the parents that they want to be,” said Steel Valley Reproductive Justice Coalition in a prepared statement.
