WARREN, April 4 – In response to the COVID-19 crisis, the Trumbull County Historical Society has launched a series of online programs for schoolchildren of all ages. It begins Monday, April 6 with new lessons every Monday in April and May.
Understanding the struggle that parents are now facing to teach their children from home and realizing the lack of local history content in current lessons, the Historical Society is providing a short video lesson and activities targeted to children in grades 3-8.
“It is our hope that these lessons will ease the burden of parents who are now tasked with filling the role of homeschool teacher,” said Meghan Reed, Historical Society director. “The lessons are meant to help provide fun and engaging content and allow students to dive a bit more into local topics.”
For example, the lessons will cover significant topics such as the Underground Railroad in Trumbull County, women’s suffrage, local historic homes, Packard Electric and the area’s ties to industry.
In addition to lessons, the Historical Society is revamping its Sunday Speaker Series, which will go online in April and May. These digital dialogue conversations will occur via Google Hangout. The link to join by video or phone is located on TCHS’s Facebook page and website: www.trumbullcountyhistory.org… under “Sunday Speaker Series.”
Upcoming programs in the Sunday Speaker Series include:
