Computer education

This class reviews the basics and covers how to enhance your document using formatting, layout, margins, and spacing. Prior attendance in Microsoft Word Class 1 is preferred. 6-7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 15.

Basic Computer Literacy: Desktops and Web Browsers. Newport Library, 3730 Market St., Youngstown 44507. 330-744-8636. www.libraryvisit.org…. Learn how to navigate a computer desktop and locate and identify programs. It also covers the basic functions of web browsers. Three laptops will be available for use. 4 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 20.

Technology

Learn how to write code, create websites, and design games and apps. The class uses Fiero, a software program that teaches how to code through hundreds of tutorials. 4-5:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 1, 8, 15, 22.

This class covers the basics. Register for an account, learn to create designs and insert text and images. You will need to have your email address and a password in order to register for a Canva account. 10 a.m., Monday, Dec. 12.

Join the Western Reserve Amateur Radio Club to learn the basics of amateur radio operations and take the FCC Ham Radio test to obtain your technician license. This is the first of two classes. 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 7.

It includes registering for a Zoom account, sound, video, chatting, and hand raising. You must have an email account to register for this class. Makerspace

Makers Academy: Laser Engraver. Michael Kusalaba Library, 2815 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown 44509. 330-744-8636. This new Makers Academy teaches how to use the technology at the Michael Kusalaba Library. Each month features a different project using makerspace technologies. Participants will receive a punch card to keep track of their progress. Get 10 punches to complete the academy and receive a prize. Call to schedule an appointment. Occurs during Library hours in January.

It’s recommended that you have already taken “Intro to Finding Grants.” This class covers the filters that make searching the Foundation Directory Online easier, including Support Strategy, Transaction Type, Organization Type, Keyword, EIN/BRIDGE Number, Grant Amount slider, Year(s) slider. 6-7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 17.
