The Cleveland-based Cavani String Quartet is named for 19th century violin makers Giovanni and Vincenzo Cavani. The quartet, which formed in 1984, became the Quartet-in-Residence at the Cleveland Institute of Music in 1988. Cavani has received The Naumburg Award, Ohio Governors Award for the Arts, Musical America Magazine’s “Young Artists of the Year,” ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming, and is two-time winner of The Guarneri Quartet Award Artistic Excellence, and recipients of more than 10 Chamber Music America Residency Partnership Grants. Jazz guitarist Pasquale Grasso comes to YSU for a master class and performance. The Italian-born, New York-based musician is known for a pianistic approach to jazz guitar. His most recent release is 2022’s “BeBop!,” a tribute to be-bop pioneers Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker.
