Warm Pear Waffles | This recipe can be prepared with either homemade waffles or the frozen variety of your choice. Recipe links to three homemade (and semi-homemade) varieties appear below. You can also substitute other fruits of your choice, including apples, bananas, or persimmons. Optional: top with chopped nuts and whipped cream.

Ingredients

2 ripe pears
4 tablespoons butter (half stick)
4 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Zest from one orange
Juice from one orange
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Pinch of salt
6 frozen waffles, toasted

Preparation
  • In a non-stick skillet melt butter and sugar together over medium heat.
  • Once melted and combined, add pears.
  • Cook pears for 3 minutes over medium heat.
  • Add pinch of salt and cinnamon.
  • Mix well, then add vanilla.
  • Zest and juice orange into pan and stir.
  • Cook until pears are softened and liquid has reduced to a syrupy consistency.
  • Serve pears and syrup over warm waffles.
