The Warren Kiwanis Club will hold its 44th annual Turkey Trot Race on Thanksgiving morning at Kent State Trumbull Campus in Champion. This year’s race also adds a dog parade in partnership with the Mathews High School Key Club.
The Turkey Trot begins at 8:30 a.m. with a 1K-Kids Run and the “Pilgrims & Pup-kins Parade.” The 2-Mile Walk/Run begins at 9 a.m. and the 5-Mile Run follows at 10 a.m.
Registration is $25 by Nov. 21 and $30 the day of the event. For more information, visit the Warren Kiwanis Turkey Trot Facebook page. At least $1 from every Turkey Trot registration will benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. Additional proceeds will be used for Warren Kiwanis Club service programs and community-improvement efforts.
Registration for the “Pilgrims & Pup-kins Parade” is $5 per dog (cash only) and payable at the Key Club registration table beginning at 7:30 a.m. Judges will award prizes to the best-dressed pups (holiday best or Thanksgiving-themed costume). Dogs must be leashed and accompanied by a responsible caregiver at all times.
Turkey Trot prizes and awards include participation ribbons in the children’s 1K; medals in the 2-mile and 5-mile events; cash prizes for the top three overall finishers in the 5-mile event; plaques for the top three overall male and female finishers in the 2-mile event; and plaques for the top five overall male and female finishers in the 5-mile event. Trophies will be awarded to Grand Master (male and female, ages 50 and older) and Master (male and female, ages 40 and older) in the 5-mile event.
