September 2022 Wine Recommendations – The Wine Guy. As summer comes to a close, enjoy these tasty wines at your upcoming gatherings of family and friends. Listings include characteristics, origin, accompaniments, and approximate retail price. I’m looking forward to trying the new releases for fall and will be sure to share them with you! — John M. White and rose wines

Protea Chenin Blanc 2021. Characteristics: Lemon and stonefruit flavors, bright and clean. Accompaniments: Appetizers, fish. Origin: Western Cape of South Africa. Origin: Approximately $16 on sale.

Emmolo Sauvignon Blanc 2021. Characteristics: Delicate mineral-driven fruit flavors. Accompaniment: Appetizers, chicken. Origin: Napa Valley and surrounding areas. Retail: Approximately $20 on sale.

Boen Tri-Appellation Chardonnay 2019. Characteristics: Creamy and very well-balanced. Accompaniment: Fish, appetizers. Origin: Sonoma, Calif. Retail: Approximately $20 on sale.

Tarantas Bobal Rose. Characteristics: Cherry aromas and flavors, easy finish. Accompaniment: Appetizers. Origin: Spain. Retail: Approximately $17.

Strong Sonoma Vineyards Red Blend 2019. Characteristics: Mostly Merlot blend (81 percent) with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Accompaniment: Steak, barbecue. Origin: Sonoma County, Calif. Retail: Approximately $20 on sale.

Boen Tri-Appellation Pinot Noir 2019. Characteristics: Flavors of blackberry, dark chocolate, and Bing cherries. Accompaniment: Steak. Origin: Monterey, Sonoma, and Santa Barbara County, Calif. Retail: Approximately $22 on sale.

Finca Resalso Tempranillo. Characteristics: Black forest fruit flavors. Accompaniment: Steak, grilled chicken, pizza. Origin: Spain. Retail: Approximately $20.

Alceno 50 Barricas Syrah. Characteristics: Intense color, red and roasted fruit flavors. Accompaniment: Barbecue. Origin: Spain. Retail: Approximately $17 on sale.

Chapillon Cuvee Harmonie. Characteristics: Cherry, plum, and berry flavors with pronounced tannins. Accompaniment: Steak, spicy chicken, grilled fare. Origin: Spain. Retail: Approximately $20 on sale.
