WYSU-FM is announcing its special programming for the Christmas holidays. Youngstown State University’s non-commercial, listener-supported public radio station kicked off its holiday programming on Wednesday.

Performances range from classical compositions to holiday favorites. Remaining programs include:

Monday, Dec. 18-Thursday, Dec. 21

Classical Music with Gary Sexton. Music for the holiday season, including Alfred Reed’s “Russian Christmas Music.” 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 18.


Classical Music with Gary Sexton. Music for the holiday season, including Vivaldi’s “Magnificat, RV 611.” 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 19.


Classical Music with Gary Sexton. Music for the holiday season, including Bach’s “Magnificat.” 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 20.


Performance Today. This syndicated program will feature live performances of holiday music from around the country. 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 20.


Classical Music with Gary Sexton. Music for the holiday season, including Handel’s “Messiah, Part 1,” plus the “Hallelujah Chorus,” at noon. 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 21.


Performance Today. This syndicated program will feature live performances of holiday music from around the country. 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 21.

Your Classical Christmas Favorites. WYSU will count down the top Christmas songs in a two-hour special. 9 a.m.


All is Bright. Host Lynne Warfel offers an hour of choral music that tells the traditional Christmas story with songs about angels, the star, and the manger scene. 11 a.m.


Winter Holidays around the World with Bill McGlaughlin. This eclectic playlist includes ancient Italian Christmas melodies, Mexican celebrations by Dave Brubeck, a Parisian ode by Debussy, a Polynesian hymn, and an excerpt from Gian Carlo Menotti’s “Amahl and the Night Visitors.” Noon.


In Winter’s Glow. This winter solstice program features modern classical sounds chosen  to complement the chilly, starry nights of the season. 1 p.m.


Anticipation and Celebration: Advent with the Montserrat Boys Choir. The Monserrat Boys Choir repertoire ranges from Gregorian chants to pieces by contemporary Spanish composer Bernat Vivancos. 2 p.m.


The Jazz Sofa with Rick Popovich. Features a program of holiday jazz favorites. 7 p.m.

‘A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols.’ This program presents the popular, live world-wide Christmas Eve broadcast performed in the 500-year-old Chapel of King’s College, Cambridge, England. 10 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 24. (King’s College)

The Thistle & Shamrock. Cerys Matthews narrates excerpts from the Dylan Thomas holiday classic, “A Child’s Christmas In Wales,” set to music that she created and recorded with her collaborator Mason Neely. Hosted by Fiona Ritchie. 6 p.m.


Sunday Baroque. Features an evening of holiday music from the Baroque era presented by Suzanne Bonna. 7 p.m.


VocalEssence is a 32-voice professional choir that performs music from the Baroque era to the modern day. (VocalEssence)
Christmas Day – Monday, Dec. 25

Welcome Christmas. The VocalEssence holiday concert is an hour of joyful, classic holiday music of traditional carols and new discoveries. 9 a.m.


Carols at Home with the Imani Winds. Features a modern take on classic Christmas carols, hosted by Imani Winds founding oboist, Toyin Spellman-Diaz. 10 a.m.


Chanticleer Christmas. This program of holiday favorites, new and old, will be presented live in concert by Chanticleer, the 12-man ensemble known as “an orchestra of voices.” 11 a.m.


Christmas at The Movies. There have been many Christmas scenes in movies, and host David Garland will present some of the accompanying music. Includes holiday favorites like “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “Miracle on 34th Street,” and “The Bishop’s Wife.” Noon.


Pittsburgh Symphony Radio: Messiah. Music Director Manfred Honeck leads the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, and soloists in Handel’s “Messiah.” 1 p.m.


Performance Today. Live performances of holiday music from around the country. 7 p.m.
