The YMCA of Youngstown is announcing the opening of its new Athletic Performance Center at the Central YMCA in downtown Youngstown.
“Our goal with the Athletic Performance Center at the Y is to help athletes in reaching the potential they are capable of,” said Meri Fetkovich, YMCA senior director of Health and Wellness. “No matter their goals or age, the APC has staff, resources, and equipment to assist participants in realizing their full ability.”
The center’s six focus areas are speed, power, agility, flexibility, ”explosiveness,” and strength. Components are incorporated into each program for overall athletic development, increasing athletic performance, and properly strengthening joints and muscles for injury reduction and prevention.
The center offers programs for all sports, both individual and team. Physical development, injury prevention, and form are key components of the center. Staff are nationally certified and hold exercise-science degrees.
The Athletic Performance Center offers programs for children ages 6 and up and adults of all ages. Youth programs are developmentally appropriate.
In addition, the center offers a registered and licensed dietitian. Staff work one-on-one or with a team to develop appropriate intakes and guide athletes to healthy post-workout drinks and meals to ensure proper muscle recovery and rebuilding.
YMCA membership includes program options and free classes at the center. To see programs, visit here.
Programs are also offered free for qualifying children, ages 6-18, through a TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) grant. Applications are available at the Y or online at www.ymcayo.org….
