Youngstown announces Nov. 15 ribbon cutting for SMART2 Corridor

Youngstown will host a ribbon cutting for the Youngstown SMART2 Corridor 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 15 at Fifth Avenue and Commerce Street in downtown Youngstown.

The event is scheduled to include remarks from Youngstown Mayor Jamael Tito Brown, U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Howland), U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson (R-Marietta), First Ward Councilman Julius Oliver and Youngstown State University President Jim Tressel.

The $27.65-million SMART2 project consists of reconstructing Fifth Avenue and improved sidewalk and pedestrian amenities, dedicated bike lanes, conduit installment, beautification upgrades and transit improvements in the downtown and university areas.

Youngstown secured a $10.8 million BUILD Grant, among other resources, for construction through a collaboration between Eastgate Regional Council of Governments, Mercy Health, the Western Reserve Transit Authority (WRTA), Western Reserve Port Authority, YSU and the Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber.
