Youngstown CityScape is inviting the community to participate in its 28th annual Planting Day. The event will occur 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, May 31.
This year’s theme is “Streetscape 2025 – Peace, Love & Flowers.”
CityScape is seeking volunteers to clean and beautify the downtown area in preparation for summer. Participants will be needed to plant, mulch and weed throughout the central business district.

The first 500 to register will receive an official “Streetscape 2025” T-shirt. Last year, nearly 1,000 volunteers aided CityScape’s efforts.
The organization is also seeking event sponsors. Contributions will go toward the purchase of plants, mulch, tools and materials.
In previous years, CityScape planted and maintained approximately 11,850 square feet of public beds and pots. With the downtown’s new street design, the organization is taking on over 74,000 square feet, nearly six times the public green space to plant, prune and water.
“Community support plays a powerful role in projects that have real life, positive impact on Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley,” said CityScape in a release. “It is a theme we hope conveys the universal language of positivity, unity, and of making our community a more beautiful place – one flower at a time.”
