Author John Scalzi will deliver the keynote speech at Youngstown State University’s History Across the Humanities conference. Scalzi, a multiple Hugo Award winner and New York Times bestselling author, will speak about the state of the science fiction genre today. After his talk, he will answer questions and hold a book signing. Scalzi is the author of “Old Man’s War,” “Redshirts,” and “Starter Villain.” He is former president of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, and the 2016 Ohio Governor’s Award winner for Individual Artist. Scalzi’s visit is part of an effort between YSU Poetry Center director Christopher Barzak, YSU History Across the Humanities conference director Dr. Amy Fluker, and Ruth Grace Memorial Endowed Scholar Dr. Laura Beadling to support the regional development of a new science fiction museum in Warren.
