The Youngstown Summer Movie Series kicks off on Monday, June 24 with the 2023 family film “Trolls Band Together.”
The outdoor series occurs on Mondays through Aug. 5. Movies start at 9 p.m. and admission is free. In the event of rain, films occur the following day (Tuesday). With the exception of “Barbie” (Friday, July 5), all movies occur at Wean Park, 201 S. Phelps St., Youngstown 44503.
The series is sponsored by the JAC Live, Penguin City Brewing Company, the City of Youngstown, Youngstown Rayen Early College High School, Apple Ridge Productions LLC, and Wean Park.

Trolls Band Together (2023). Family/comedy/adventure. (PG). 1 hour 31 minutes. Animated film starring voice actors Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, Troye Sivan, Eric André, Daveed Diggs and Kid Cudi. 9 p.m., Monday, June 24.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022) Drama. (PG-13). 2 hours 10 minutes. Maverick (Tom Cruise) confronts the ghosts of his past when he leads elite graduates on a mission. Stars Cruise, Val Kilmer, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Bashir Salahuddin, Jon Hamm and Charles Parnell. 9 p.m., Monday, July 1.
Barbie (2023) Comedy/adventure/fantasy. (PG-13). 1 hour 54 minutes. Directed by Greta Gerwig. Last summer introduced the world to Existential Barbie and a surprisingly sly hit when Barbie (Margot Robbie) and Ken (Ryan Gosling) leave their pink, plastic world. Stars Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera, Michael Cera, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman and Will Ferrell. Occurs at the Youngstown Amphitheater at Wean Park. 9 p.m., Friday, July 5.
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984). Drama/adventure. (PG). 1 hour 58 minutes. Directed by Steven Spielberg. Story by George Lucas. This classic film in the Indiana Jones adventure series stars Harrison Ford, Kate Capshaw, Ke Huy Quan, Amrish Puri, Roshan Seth, Philip Stone and Dan Aykroyd. 9 p.m., Monday, July 15.
Shrek 2 (2004) Comedy/adventure. (PG). 1 hour 33 minutes. The summer’s second animated film for families. Stars Mike Myers (Shrek), Eddie Murphy (Donkey), Cameron Diaz (Princess Fiona) and Julie Andrews as the Queen. Other voice actors include Antonio Banderas, John Cleese, Rupert Everett and Jennifer Saunders. 9 p.m., Monday, July 22.
Jaws 2 (1978) Horror/drama. (PG). 1 hour 56 minutes. The shark and police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) return for more in the sequel to Steven Spielberg’s 1975 summer blockbuster. Stars Scheider, Lorraine Gary (Ellen Brody) and Murray Hamilton (Mayor Vaughn). 9 p.m., Monday, July 29.
The Little Mermaid (2023) Fantasy/adventure/family. (PG). 2 hours 15 minutes. Stars Halle Bailey as Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King as Eric and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula. 9 p.m., Monday, Aug. 5.
