Youngstown State University’s applied history program will present its spring 2022 student projects 3 p.m., Friday, May 6 in the Meshel Classroom at the Youngstown Historical Center for Industry & Labor, 151 W. Wood St., Youngstown.

Students will discuss their coursework in presentations intended for the general public. The program is free.

The projects exemplify university and community collaboration, conveying the past while contributing to the present and future of the community. The program is under the directorship of Dr. Tom Leary.

Presentations include:

• An exhibit on Congregation Ohev Beth Sholom, Youngstown’s oldest Jewish synagogue. The house of worship is located at 1119 Elm St. across from Wick Park.

• The Mackey Map, an interactive-digital exhibit that represents the area around the Covelli Centre and the east end of downtown Youngstown. The extent is defined by a recently discovered surveyor’s drawing, the result of a title search occasioned by the ownership transition from Brown-Bonnell ironworks to Republic Iron & Steel in 1899.

• The launch of the interactive map and exhibit for the Mahoning Movement, a history and advocacy project of transportation in the Mahoning Valley. It spans the eras of Native American trails, the Pittsburgh and Ohio Canal, railways, to the proposed Mahoning River Greenway to connect the region and nation east of the Mississippi.

• A preview of the “Steel Museum” Youngstown Historical Center for Industry & Labor 30th Anniversary digital exhibit.

• The digital exhibit and interactive map for “Early Architecture of the Western Reserve & Nearby Places,” documenting and analyzing surviving structures from the early 1800s.
